Gloriana's self-titled debut reflects both the sheer talent of this up-and-coming group and the level of commitment that they have put into making every note count. More Pop Than Country - But Lots of FUN by M. D. SternI love Country music. I grew up listening to Country, and I love classic Country, while appreciating and loving a lot of modern Country as well. I have to admit when I first heard Gloriana's "Wild At Heart" on the radio at work, it grabbed me. It is pure feel good, toe-tapping, get you swaying in your seat, clapping to the beat music. It took me a while to figure out who the band was, and I decided to get the album and give it a ride.
I'm glad I did! This is not really Country - but that's okay! This is really fun music. This is long drive home with nasty traffic, put in this CD, and soon I'm in a terrific mood music! This is pick me up music and life is now much better, and I like it when a musician or band can do that.
Of course, I doubt few people could resist "Wild At Heart." It has just about everything one would need to enjoy in a song. I also enjoy the opening track "How Far Do You Wanna Go," "If You're Leavin'," and, for a change of pace, "Cry On Command."
Many people have compared Gloriana to Lady Antebellum, and I think that's a mistake. I really do think Lady A has a more sophisticated style right now. While I enjoy this debut album, and think it's a lot of fun, I would like to see some growth in the next one. All of these talented musicians are songwriters, yet (I believe) only one of their songs was used on this album. Perhaps their next album will feature their writing talents as well as their singing talents. I really hope we see (and hear) more of these young people. But I do hope they are more than a one album wonder!
