High Violet

High Violet
High Violet, the new full-length record by the National, is a nervy, melodic, explosive and beautiful set of songs that find the band at the height of their collaborative powers. The music is wide-ranging in its moods, by turns intimate and rough, expansive and spare, full of stark angles and atmosphere. Berninger's singing wild, half-broken, sly evokes a feeling of being haunted, by love, by paranoia, by something just out of reach. High Violet may be The National's most thematically twisted record to date but it somehow also manages to be their most infectious and immediate. read more..

Wildly beautiful by Amazon fiend
Much better reviews have already been written here, but I will just chime in to say that this is the single best album I've head in years. These guys are simply the most exciting and worthwhile band around at the moment and you owe it to yourself to get their their last three wonderful albums. I'm a pretty die-hard Radiohead fan, but when someone compared this to OK Computer I found myself in mild agreement (whereas I normally just slap people in the face who make such a comparison) I haven't owned it for long enough (or listened to it 10,000 times like OKC), but the arch and tone and beauty and sadness that made that such a great album are most certainly present here.

Also, If you're not going to get the album AT LEAST download "Sorrow" for $1. If there were any broadcast platform left that anybody listened to, it would be a #1 hit.
